Taylor Swift & Miley Cyrus
Taylor Swift and Miley Cyrus during the 2008 American Music Awards held at Nokia Theatre L.A. LIVE on November 23, 2008 in Los Angeles, CA.

Miley Cyrus rang in the big 1-6 Sunday at the 2008 American Music Awards in Los Angeles — with some help from Julianne Hough, Ashley Tisdale, Jordin Sparks and Taylor Swift!

"All the girls, we decided we were going to say ‘Happy Birthday’ to Miley backstage," Swift told Usmagazine.com.

"I thought she nailed it tonight," she added of the Hannah Montana star, who performed a seductive version of her single "Fly on the Wall" on the show. "Oh my gosh, it was amazing … I think she completely owned it!"

What did her pop Billy Ray Cyrus get his birthday girl (who had her Sweet 16 bash Oct. 5 at Disneyland)?

"A recording studio!" he told Us on the AMA red carpet.

Miley had another reason to celebrate Sunday: Her latest big screen effort, Walt Disney’s 3-D animated Bolt, made $27 million to take third place at the box office.

Miley Cyrus

With all the success she’s had over the past couple of years, it’s hard to remember that Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus is only 15 years old. In fact, she admits that it’s sometimes hard for her to remember too. And she’s quick to point out that her predicament is similar to the one faced by Bolt, the title dog in Cyrus’ new animated movie.

In Bolt, a puppy plays a sci-fi action hero, and it isn’t until he faces life off the studio lot that he realizes he’s just a regular dog with no real-life superpowers.

"I think it really shows a lot of kids when they see pictures of me in the press and the paparazzi where I’m not all glamorous and all done up," she told MTV News. "You have to realize it’s kind of like Bolt – that’s what he has to learn to do."

With the constant media attention she gets, as well as all the rumors and scrutiny she faces on a daily basis, it seems like it would be hard for her to find time to be a normal teen who goes out and has fun, but Cyrus insists she’s trying her best to find a balance.

"I feel like I have just enough [fun]," she said of her life as a child star. "I get to do just enough to be happy, but I get enough to know I’m safe and know that I’m living a good life and being smart."

And just like Bolt learning how to be a regular dog, turning off the adult, Hollywood persona is something Cyrus is also learning to do. "He has to learn to turn it off, and I definitely feel like that," she said. "There’s times when you need to turn it off, and that’s something that Bolt doesn’t know how to do."

Miley Cyrus "Bolt" Interview

She’s a truly cross-platform sensation — a TV star, platinum recording artist and a burgeoning big-screen playmaker — but you’ll never guess what Miley Cyrus is potentially poised to do next: win an Academy Award?

For the song "I Thought I Lost You," which Cyrus wrote with Jeffrey Steele and performs with John Travolta in the movie "Bolt," the 15-year-old "Hannah Montana" star is listed as a presumptive favorite in the category of Best Original Song by several Oscar handicappers, most notably The Los Angeles Times.

Surprised? Never thought it could happen? Don’t worry, neither did John Travolta.

"I knew she was writing it with her partner, and I thought, ‘Well, it will be a cute song, whatever it is. I’d agreed to sing it, so whatever it is I’m going to sing it, ‘ " Travolta recalled of early trepidation when he heard Cyrus herself was penning the song, which plays over the end credits of the new Disney animated movie. "Well, it was something great. I mean, those lyrics, the melody, those choruses are A-plus stuff, you know? She’s really gifted at writing, and she really wanted to write something good for me as the character Bolt, so she went out of her way with her writing partner to come up with something good, and I really think they pulled it off. I know something about music, and I’m telling ya, I was blown away."

The movie follows a Hollywood dog who finds himself in New York after escaping from his padlocked trailer. Desperate to reunite with his owner, the dog joins forces with a cat and hamster team to make his way across the country and find his way home.

For Cyrus, capturing that cross-country journey was the key to making the song work, she said, and it was the reason she chose Nashville songwriter Steele as her collaborator.

"Because this isn’t just a movie that takes place in L.A. — it takes place all across the country — so, I think it’s a really cool way that we could get that feeling, not just make it something that sounds from Hollywood and really produced, but we could add a little country twang to it," she said. "I thought it was fun."

The lyrics and melody evoke a somewhat melancholy notion of getting lost and getting found, with an overarching theme of loyalty, Cyrus explained.

"Like how you wish so badly that someone won’t change, and not only do you lose them physically, you know, he gets lost cross-country, but he feels like he’s lost his little puppy-ness," she said of Bolt — who, thanks to being the star of his own TV show, actually thinks he has superpowers. "Like, he really doesn’t feel like a dog anymore. [He] feels more just like an actor."

But is it enough to lead Cyrus to the red carpet at the Kodak Theatre as a nominee in a year full of strong contenders, which also include songs from other Disney films like "WALL-E" and "High School Musical 3: Senior Year"?

It wouldn’t surprise executive producer John Lasseter in the least.

"[The song] so sums up the theme of this film. You know, a dog and its owner and they both were separated, but they love each other so much — there’s such an emotional payoff when these characters get reunited, and I think that’s what this song’s about," he said. "When [Miley and John] sang it, it just really, really works. I mean, it’s a great song unto itself, but it really works in the movie."

You can judge for yourself when "Bolt" opens Friday.

Miley Cyrus and Mandy Jiroux
BFF’s Mandy Jiroux and Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus is not dead.

Early Sunday, a video posted on the "Miley and Mandy Show" YouTube page falsely claimed she’d been killed by a drunken driver.

Set to the sound of Miley‘s weepy new single "Goodbye," the more than two-minute-long video featured a grim message from Miley‘s BFF Mandy Jiroux.

Jiroux’s supposed message reads: "Hey guys, this is Mandy and I have some very sad news :( …We’re very hurt to tell everyone this, but Miley died this morning after being hit by a drunk driver. Miley told us if anything ever happened to her, then we should let her fans know before the public…R.I.P. honey, we will miss you so much."

But Jiroux tells E! News that the video is the work of "a hacker"—not her—and that, as of Sunday afternoon, the hacker video was in the process of being removed from the site.

Mandy also posted this on her official Myspace page: "some1 hacked the miley and mandy youtube account and we cant  get back into it just yet!! MILEY IS OK!!"

We checked the Miley and Mandy Show YouTube page before posting this article and everything seems to be back in the hands of Miley and Mandy.

Miley Cyrus

‘I needed a serious massage afterward,’ she says of ‘Fly on the Wall’ clip’s intense choreography.

Miley Cyrus might not be dating Nick Jonas anymore, but that doesn’t mean their paths don’t cross once in a while. For her new "Fly on the Wall" video, the teen star hooked up with Philip Andelman, who also directed the Jonas Brothers"Lovebug" clip.

"I’m not sure if she did know I directed the ['Lovebug'] video and she didn’t mention it on set," he told MTV News of the coincidence. But, the director said, she definitely had a very strong idea of what she wanted in the video. "I was told the song was a soft poke at the paparazzi that Miley is constantly surrounded by and that she was hoping for there to be some choreography in the video."

Cyrus told us the song is about the constant attention she gets, whether she goes to the mall with a new love interest or holds a "sweet 16" bash at Disneyland. " ‘Fly on the Wall’ is about the media," she said. "It’s about how they think they know everything about me, when they don’t. They want to be a fly on my wall and watch me 24/7."

The clip spoofs Michael Jackson‘s classic "Thriller" video, but Andelman said that instead of zombies, everyone turns into Miley’s worst nightmare: prying photographers. "I didn’t want to do something too serious, as I felt it would come off as her being whiny instead of playful," he said.

"The gist of the concept is that she and her boyfriend are on a date, leaving a movie, when suddenly, he gets overcome by some strange cough," he revealed. "Suddenly, he turns into a paparazzo and begins chasing Miley. Soon, she is backed into a corner with nowhere to turn and the paparazzi approaching, when suddenly, instead of attacking or photographing her, they break into choreography."

Miley said making the video and spoofing her life was a blast. "I definitely had some fun," she said. "I needed a serious massage afterward. It has a great dance number, and it’s super-fun."

While "Fly on the Wall" is her favorite track on Breakout, Cyrus thought she needed to wait a bit before releasing the single. "It was originally going to be the first single. But instead, I thought ’7 Things’ was a better introduction to my entire album," she said. " ‘Fly on the Wall’ is very catchy and fun to dance to. It’s one of my favorite songs on the album."

It’s that kind of business sense that Andelman thinks will help keep Cyrus relevant for years to come, no matter what she sets her sights on next. "She was this incredible bouncing ball of energy," he said. "The second she’s on set, you know it, because there is literally a whirlwind of giddiness that whooshes around her.

"She’s got a really, really quick wit that keeps you on your toes," he added. "You can’t pull a fast one on her, unfortunately, and she knows it!"

That youthful effervescence lends itself to Cyrus’ ever-growing résumé, Andelman said. "Every day, it seems like she adds another project to her already-busy schedule," the director said. "I think what is so remarkable about her now is that she has a-million-and-one projects in a-million-and-one different directions. … It’s really astounding. Heck, she might just become the nation’s greatest potter next year — wouldn’t surprise me at all!"

Unlike Brett Ratner, who directed Cyrus in her VMA-nominated "7 Things" video and compared her to Madonna, Andelman likens Cyrus to an unexpected celebrity.

"She is constantly cracking jokes, constantly jumping up and down," he said. "I could not imagine someone having more energy than her. She’s like a mini, female Jim Carrey."
